Yes, you can get a chance to taste both veg or non-veg shawarma in Shawarma Street, just in front of the gate of the Indian Institute of Mines. This is the favorite food of the engineers studying in this institute.

Ali Asad runs this Shawarma Street in front of ISM Gate in Dhanbad. He told that for chicken shawarma, the meat is cut into thin pieces. Placed in an inverted cone, it is roasted on a slowly rotating rotisserie. The meat cooks due to the continuous rotation of the cooking surface. Then the dish is prepared by cutting it into thin pieces. Chicken shawarma is usually served as a sandwich or wrap in flatbread with garlic chutney, fries and pickles.

First choice of engineering students
Ali Asad tells that this dish is originally from Lebanon. It is liked in Arab countries. He had tasted it during his stay in Mumbai. Therefore, when he returned to Dhanbad, he started his shop in front of the gate of ISM in 2006. Asad says that students studying engineering here come from all over the country. They like this dish. That is why it is sometimes called engineer’s shawarma. They say that its taste is such that many times people order over the phone 2 hours in advance.

Variety from non-veg to veg
Ali Asad says that a total of 15 kg chicken is required to make chicken shawarma. 200 pieces of bread, 10 kg garlic chutney and 2 kg mayonnaise are consumed. It is served with cucumber pickle and chili sauce. Ali Ashad told that apart from chicken shawarma, veg shawarma is also made at his place. They make six to seven varieties in both non-veg and veg forms. Chicken Shawarma is in the range of Rs 70 to Rs 150. Crispy Chicken Shawarma is Rs 100 plate. He said that apart from this, they make many items like Tandoori Paneer, Crispy Paneer, Crispy Veg, Harisha Egg Shawarma, Falafel Shawarma, Mutton Keema Shawarma, Tandoori Crispy Shawarma. Be it veg or non-veg, both types of items are liked by the customers coming to their place.
